Curriculum Intent and implementation

At our school, our motto “Together we care, Together we succeed” underpins everything we do. We provide a high‑quality education for children from Nursery to Year 6. Our broad and balanced curriculum is carefully designed to develop pupils’ essential knowledge, skills, character and learning behaviours so that they grow into confident, inquisitive and successful lifelong learners.

Curriculum Intent

We aim to nurture pupils, who are resilient and independent, equipped with the learning behaviours needed to tackle challenges with confidence. We encourage our children to be thoughtful global citizens, who appreciate diversity, value equality and demonstrate respect and responsibility within their community and the wider world. We aim for our pupils to be creative, effective communicators, able to express themselves clearly and work collaboratively with others. We are proud that our pupils are environmentally aware individuals, who understand their role in contributing positively to society.

These aspirations are underpinned by our school values: perseverance, equality, respect, collaboration, creativity and honesty, and further supported by the Skills Builder approach, which develops listening, teamwork, problem solving, staying positive and aiming high.

We intentionally develop pupils’ character so they grow into:

  • Respectful and responsible citizens, ready to contribute positively to modern society.
  • Environmentally conscious individuals, aware of their impact on the world around them.
  • Confident leaders and collaborators, able to engage thoughtfully with others.

This is achieved through:

  • Our school values being woven throughout our school day
  • Assemblies
  • Leadership and pupil voice opportunities including School Council, Eco-Council, Digital Leaders and Trust Council
  • Engagement in community and charitable projects
  • The use of Picture News to explore protected characteristics and embed British Values

Curriculum Implementation

Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to ensure layered learning opportunities that revisit, reinforce and deepen understanding over time. Through this approach, pupils build secure foundations and make meaningful connections with prior learning.

At the heart of our school is our whole‑school library that inspires a love of reading. Our approach to writing immerses pupils in a wide range of high‑quality texts, helping them to develop as confident, enthusiastic and capable writers.

To widen pupils’ experiences, we offer:

  • Educational visits, including local history walks, fieldwork opportunities and an outdoor, adventurous residential trip.
  • Experiences with visitors in school, enriching classroom learning with expert knowledge and hands‑on opportunities.
  • Participation in cultural and sporting activities, such as sports tournaments and musical performances.

Our extensive school grounds—including a well‑established Forest School—provide regular outdoor learning for our children. This connection with the environment supports our commitment to sustainability from an early age and supports children’s mental, physical and emotional health.

Our on-site swimming pool enables us to offer high‑quality swimming provision for all pupils, helping them develop essential water safety and lifesaving skills.
