Week Commencing 13th July 2020

Hello Reception,

We hope that you are all feeling happy and healthy and have been having lots of fun. Remember to keep your body and minds healthy with lots of exercise, healthy foods and lots of smiles.

Did you enjoy last week’s topic about ‘Toys’? We wonder if you would rather keep your toys or swap them for older ones? We have loved seeing some of your Teddy Bear designs on Purple Mash, well done if you have managed to save your work on there. You can also send us any photos of your lovely work to hello@gig-mill.dudley.sch.uk. (Please use YR in the email title / subject).

Our new focus this week is ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’. We thought that it would be a lovely celebration for you to have your very own Teddy Bear’s Picnic at home. We wonder which of your toys you will invite? What are your favourite picnic foods? We really hope that you manage to have a lovely picnic to celebrate the end of your Reception year. It has certainly turned out to be a different year to the one that we had planned for you. Never the less we are so proud of you for everything that you have learned in school and at home. You will have faced different challenges along the way but you have all been absolutely amazing. All of your teachers have many happy memories of this year in Reception and we hope that you do too.

We hope that you all have lots of fun over the summer holidays and we look forward to seeing you back in school in September.

Miss Carpenter, Miss Whitehead, Mrs Dudley and Mrs Smith.

Week Commencing 6th July 2020

Hello Reception,

We hope you have all had a lovely week and done lots of fun things that have made you smile and giggle. Are you remembering to keep healthy? Keep eating lots of fruit and vegetables and doing plenty of exercise.

Did you enjoy last week’s topic about ‘The Beach’? We loved seeing your rock pool pictures on Purple Mash. Did you design your own sunglasses or sun hat? We would love to see any designs that you may have done. If any of your designs were made into 3D models then we would love to see a photo of you wearing them. It would really put a smile on our faces. Please send us any photos of your lovely work to hello@gig-mill.dudley.sch.uk. (Please use YR in the email title / subject).

Our new focus this week is ‘Toys’. What is your favourite toy that you like to play with? Do you think children have always had toys like that to play with? Remember to have a look at the computing activity and we will look forward to seeing your own teddy bear designs on Purple Mash. We hope that you will enjoy finding out about toys that your grown-ups used to play with when they were younger and perhaps about toys that are even older than them!

Keep smiling and having fun. Enjoy your learning and keep practising your skills to get more and more clever.

Miss Carpenter, Miss Whitehead, Mrs Dudley and Mrs Smith.

Week Commencing 29th June 2020

Hello Reception,

We hope you are all keeping active at home. We wonder what places you have been visiting and walking to. Have any of you completed Just Dance, Cosmic kids or Joe Wicks? Remember it is very important to do daily exercise to keep you fit and healthy.

Did you enjoy last week’s topic about ‘Mermaids and Pirates’? Did you make any of your own pirate phrases up or learn any new ones? Rainbow, Patrick and Billy (our class pets) have been pretending to be pirates and enjoyed saying ‘shiver me timbers’ in their best pirate voices.

Did any of you become a pirate last week, or designed your own mermaid/merman? We would love to see any art work you may have done. Please send us any photos of your lovely work/play to hello@gig-mill.dudley.sch.uk. (Please use YR in the email title / subject).

Our new focus this week is ‘The beach.’ Have you ever built a sandcastle? What did the sand feel like? When people go to the beach they need to keep themselves safe. How would you keep yourself safe? When we have been to the beach we have all worn sun cream and a sunhat and made sure we don’t go too deep into the sea.

This week, you will notice in our overviews that where a video is being used from YouTube we are accessing it through Safe YouTube to make sure that the content that you see is always safe and suitable. You will now only see the video that we wish to share via the link on our overview which helps to ensure that we are all keeping safe online.

Keep being fit and healthy and try to eat lots of fruit and vegetables. Have a great week learning about the beach and remember to keep persevering with your home learning.

Miss Carpenter, Miss Whitehead, Mrs Dudley and Mrs Smith.

Week Commencing 22nd June 2020

Hello Reception,

We hope you are all keeping active at home. We wonder what places you have been visiting and walking to. Have any of you completed Just Dance, Cosmic kids or Joe Wicks? Remember it is very important to do daily exercise to keep you fit and healthy.

We hope you enjoyed last week’s topic on ‘People who help us – Doctors and Nurses.’ Do you know someone in your family who is a doctor or a nurse? Have you seen a nurse or doctor at your GP surgery or even at the hospital? They are real life superheroes.

As we are missing you all, please send us any photos of your super work/play to    hello@gig-mill.dudley.sch.uk. (Please use YR in the email title / subject). Did any of you pretend to be a doctor or a nurse? We would love to see you pretending to be a doctor or nurse at home.

This week our new focus is ‘Mermaids and Pirates.’ This is a really fun topic so we know you will have a great time pretending to be Mermaids or Mermen and Pirates. If you were a Merman/Mermaid what colour and design would your tail be? If you were a Pirate what would your flag look like on your ship?

We hope you are being kind and helpful at home as well as having lots of fun.

Keep smiling even in the rain!

Week Commencing 15th June 2020

Hello Reception,

We hope you are all still safe and happy at home. Have you been going for walks where you live? It makes us feel so much happier when we go walking around where we live. Have you seen any decorated rocks? We have seen a few rock snakes where we live! We wonder what flowers, insects, trees and animals you have seen on your walks.

Did you enjoy last week’s topic on ‘People who help us – Police and firefighters’? Do you know someone in your family who is a firefighter or police officer? Maybe you have spoken to police officers or firefighters when you have been out for walk. They have such an important job to do to keep us safe and giving us help when we need it. Say hello to them the next time you see them.

As usual we really look forward to seeing your fantastic work. So please send your work to hello@gig-mill.dudley.sch.uk. (Please use YR in the email title / subject). Send us a picture of any police cars or fire engines you made, or pictures of you dressed up as a police officer or firefighter at home. We would love to see your fun creations and activities.

This week our new focus is ‘People who help us – Doctors and Nurses.’ This is an important topic this week as we are so grateful to all the doctors and nurses who have been caring for people who are ill. Maybe you have clapped for the NHS workers each week to say thank you for their hard work. What do you want to be when you grow up, perhaps a doctor or nurse, working in the NHS?

We hope you are all having lots of fun at home and enjoying all this time with your family. We cannot wait to hear about all the things you have been doing when we see you again.

Keep smiling, keep laughing and keep playing!

Miss Carpenter, Miss Whitehead, Mrs Dudley and Mrs Smith.

So keep staying safe, being happy and enjoying the fun in the sun!

Miss Carpenter, Miss Whitehead, Mrs Dudley and Mrs Smith.

Week Commencing 18th May 2020

Hello Reception!

We hope you are all still enjoying the weather and had fun looking for butterflies outside in your garden or on your daily walks.

Are you keeping active and keeping fit?  What is your favourite sport and what activity do you enjoy doing that gets your heart beating and is making your bodies fit and healthy? Perhaps you can make up some assault courses in your garden and have a family sports event.

This week we have a new topic-Growing! At this time of year there are so many things that are growing. You have already learned about how caterpillars grow into butterflies, so now you could think about other things that grow and change. Have any of you seen any frog spawn? This week you can learn about how frogs grow. You could have a go at growing your own plants and vegetables especially carrots from the carrot tops we don’t use. Send us some pictures, we would love to see if we have any gardeners in our class.

This week for well-being we are thinking about being safe at home. We hope you enjoy watching Doctor Ranj talk about keeping your hands clean and how to stay safe. Being safe is very important so talk to your family how you can keep on being safe and why it is important to do so.

We have loved seeing some of your work at home, you can use the new school email to send us your learning  hello@gig-mill.dudley.sch.uk (Please put YR in the email title/subject). All the teachers enjoy seeing the hard work you have been doing and how happy you are.

We are really missing your voices and smiley faces and can not wait to be with you at school again. But until then, keep on being safe and trying your best at home. We are all so proud of you. Here is a gold star for all of you ⭐️.

Have a lovely half term,

Week Commencing 11th May 2020

Hello Reception!

We hope you been enjoying some of the sunshine this week and have been enjoying the activities that we planned last week!

We are hoping you are enjoying our new topic of ‘It’s a Wonderful World’ and managed to spot lots of ladybirds outside. We also hope you all enjoyed VE day. I know there have been many flags in windows which has been lovely to see.

This week we are going to be carrying on our topic all about minibeasts and we have chosen the beautiful butterflies! There have been lots around recently and they all have beautiful patterns on their wings. All butterflies start out as caterpillars so see if you can spot any of those around before they go into their cocoons to start their change. We have added lots of creative activities for you to create your own butterflies too.

This week for well-being we have added a fun activity that we know you will really enjoy! These activities are to help you keep your brain and body active. Make sure to get you parents and siblings involved too as it makes it much more fun 😊

If you want to share your work or send us any pictures, you can use the new school email hello@gig-mill.dudley.sch.uk (Please put YR in the email title/subject). We really love seeing the work you have been doing as it always keeps us smiling!

We really miss all of you in Reception and keep up the fantastic work you are doing at home!

Keep on smiling.
